Tripo3D for game assets: text-to-3D, Smart Mesh and the Tripo CLI skill for Claude Code and Codex

6 min read·Oct 9, 2026

What Tripo3D can make for games, the licence trap on the free plan, and how to use Tripo from Claude Code or Codex today: the official CLI skill and the older MCP server.

01What Tripo makes

Tripo (by VAST) generates 3D models from text, a single image or several views. For games, the useful parts are Smart Mesh and Smart Low Poly (cleaner topology), retopology to quads, part segmentation, texture editing up to 8K, and auto-rigging with animation. It also has stylization modes such as voxel, lego and Minecraft schematics.

Exports include GLB, FBX, OBJ, USD, STL and 3MF. On the Pro plan the DCC Bridge connects Tripo to Blender, Unity, Unreal, Godot, Maya, 3ds Max, Cocos and ZBrush.

02Using Tripo from Claude Code or Codex

Tripo’s current agent route is an official CLI, @tripo3d/cli, that installs a tripo3d skill for Claude Code, Codex, Cursor and Windsurf. Install it, log in, and ask your agent for models in plain language.

There is also an official tripo-mcp server, but it is labelled alpha, was last released in April 2025 and needs Blender with the Tripo add-on open. Prefer the CLI unless you specifically work inside Blender.

03Pricing and the free-plan licence

As of October 2026: Free is $0 with 200 credits a month, but models are public and for non-commercial use; Pro is $20 a month (3,000 credits) with private models, commercial use and the DCC Bridge; Max is $90 a month (25,000 credits). A Tripo blog post describes the free tier as CC BY 4.0, which contradicts the pricing page, so treat free output as non-commercial until Tripo clarifies. See Tripo pricing.

04A boss, with a boss theme

Tripo is strong at creatures and props. Give the creature a voice and a theme in the same session with SunoBoard: the agent can generate the model, the roar and the boss music, then wire all three to the boss state machine.

Use Tripo to generate a stylized stone golem boss (GLB, rigged, low poly) and export it to assets/models. Use SunoBoard to create a deep stone-grinding roar sound effect and an epic orchestral boss theme with heavy drums that loops cleanly. Add them to the boss scene: roar on spawn, theme during the fight.
