Frequently asked questions
Is it real chiptune made on sound chips?
No. The music comes from AI models that imitate the 8-bit and 16-bit sound — it isn't written in a tracker or rendered on original hardware. For most indie games the sound is what matters; if you need exact sound-chip limits, use the result as a sketch.
How do I get an NES or SNES sound?
Name the era and the channels: "NES style, square wave lead, triangle bass, noise drums" for 8-bit, or "SNES style, sampled strings and flute" for 16-bit. Tempo and mood do the rest. The chiptune guide on our blog has prompts for every cue.
Can I make retro sound effects too?
Yes: coins, jumps, lasers, power-ups and hits from the Sound FX page, 0.5 to 10 seconds each, from a separate monthly allowance (10 on the free plan).
Can I use what I make in my game or video?
SunoBoard doesn't claim any rights over the music and sound effects you generate — what you make is yours (see our Terms). The audio comes from third-party AI models, so each model provider's terms also apply; check them before a commercial release. Read the Terms
How much does it cost?
The free plan includes 5 credits a month (up to 10 songs with Suno) and 10 sound effects, no credit card needed. One Suno request costs 1 credit and returns 2 songs; other models cost more and always show their cost before you generate. Paid plans add more credits, and Pro and up include an API key for Claude Code.
Can I do this from Claude?
Yes. Add SunoBoard as a custom connector in Claude.ai (the free plan works) or use an API key in Claude Code and Claude Desktop (Pro plan and up). Claude can then generate music and sound effects for you, and every file also lands in your SunoBoard library.
