Connect Claude Code (or Codex) to Godot with an MCP server so the agent can run the project, read errors and edit scenes. The two main servers compared, plus art and audio.
01Why connect the agent to the engine
Claude Code can already write GDScript, but without the engine it is guessing: it cannot run the scene, read the debugger output or see the node tree. An MCP server for Godot closes that loop. The agent launches the project, reads errors, inspects scenes and fixes things on its own. Godot itself is free and open source, and so are the servers below. There is no official Godot MCP server.
02godot-mcp (Coding-Solo)
godot-mcp is the most used option (MIT, around 6k stars). It launches the editor, runs projects, captures debug output and manages scenes. It needs the GODOT_PATH environment variable pointing to your Godot executable.

03Godot AI (hi-godot)
Godot AI is newer and very active. It runs as an editor dock in Godot 4.7+ and can configure Claude Code and Codex for you from inside the editor, which makes it the easiest start if you are already on the latest Godot.
04Add art and audio to the same agent
The engine server handles code and scenes; asset servers handle content. A free or low-cost Godot stack in 2026 looks like this: Godot plus a Godot MCP server, PixelLab or Meshy for art, and SunoBoard for music and sound effects. SunoBoard’s free plan includes 5 credits (up to 10 Suno songs) and 10 sound effects a month.
Run the Godot project and fix any errors in the output. Then use SunoBoard to create a looping exploration theme and sound effects for jump, land and coin pickup, save them to res://audio, and connect them to the Player and Coin scenes with AudioStreamPlayer nodes.
